Sitayan

When I was a kid, I loved listening to the tales from Ramayan and Mahabharat (after I learnt to pronounce them). I am pretty sure my grandparents had started inventing details along the way, ‘cause there is no way Nani knew if Sita was wearing a pink lehenga or a red one! I think I was around 10 when I learnt what happened after Ram ji rescued Sita Mata. They didn’t jump on a unicorn and ride off into the sunset. I guess I was too young to understand  the aftermath.  But I do know that I did not take up reading Ramayana again, on my own, till  recently when  I was gifted " The Forests of Enchantments " by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni or, as she and  I like to call it- the Sitayan. The book showed Sita in a new light. Ever since I had originally listened to  Ramayan (Grandparents version), and though my memory is  musty, Sita came across as the neighbourhood’s Sharma ji’s perfect daughter, beautiful, obedient “ sanskari”. But, this book described her as a...

Good reads: The President’s Daughter

Helloooo lovelies!!   Enemy has been slayed !. Yes that one time of the year..... my final exams are over! Are bhaiyaa all is well? Cause I am in Saturday Saturday mood. Oh forget, that was  me trying   to bring out the non existent humour in me ! This blog  is based on a book and is unlike my previous blogs which were more about actual experience with some tadka !. A book review like this actually requires  one to read the book in old fashioned  way at the expense of social media time.. Don’t look so surprised, some kids do like reading! So, I recently laid my hands on a political thriller, the President’s Daughter written by James Patterson in collaboration with Bill Clinton.  The grief and longing of a father for his kidnapped daughter. The distress , guilt and despair of a mother hiding a  secret. The dirty world of politics. Brain washed, ruthless, stone hearted  criminals. The hidden war between two super powers. A forme...

Good reads

Hola folks🤟🏼  Last year, most of my time was spent doomscrolling. And by most, I mean all🤣🤫. So this time my   mom wanted me to focus more on studying in the holidays (ya’ll know teen pressure). But necessity is the mother of ‘discovery’. I rummaged through my father’s book collection which I didn’t even know existed until 3 weeks ago and by the look of it, I don’t think my mother will have to buy me books again. There are some really awesome picks I recommend everyone should read. 👍 First up, we have 20,000 leagues under the sea by Jules Verne. Yeah I know you’ll think that it is a classic so it will be written in that Shakespearean verse which no one communicates with and will be really boring and all , but trust me it’s not. I mean the language is pretty modern and the book’s actual theme is really surprising as the book is about a submarine. You heard me right folks,  decades before the actual invention of the submarine, Jules Verne gave a very accurate descripti...

INTERESTING READS: LITTLE WOMEN

Bonjour , dear rea ders. Hope you all are doing good. Today’s blog is about a book I recently read ‘Little Women. Little Women is an 1868 novel  and also has a sequel Good Wives published in 1869.  Written by Louisa May Alcott, it is a perfect book to read lazily, snuggled on couch and sipping hot chocolate. It is tale of 4 sisters and how they  graduate from being children to young ladies, facing trials  and tribulations, time and again in life.  It is an immensely absorbing read about sisterly love, romance,  family , sacrifice, parting ways and death. Meg, Amy, Jo and Beth are the four March sisters who live with their mother and old cook Hannah.Their father has gone away to help in the war. Louisa has beautifully described the innocent friendship which gradually developed between the Marches’ and their neighbour  Laurie . I admit I cried while reading some chapters showcasing the close relationship between Jo and Beth.I was touched by the w...
