FLASH BACK INNOCENCE...😳🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Well, I am back! And this time I am going to share some of my most embarrassing memories. Hey, we all have some. A stupid friend suggested  this idea and I suppose I was even more stupid to like it. So get ready to laugh on this flashback journey

In 1st standard,  we  had a question in  EVS paper asking  about my mother tongue. Turned out that this was an out of syllabus question but at that time we were too busy to notice. So, I didn’t have the slightest idea about what mother tongue was and thought of it as mother’s tongue. On top of it, the only hint my invigilator dropped was  that it could  be blue, red, orange etc. And you guessed it right, I wrote that my mother tongue was pinkish red. Hey..it seemed reasonable that time.🙄

When I was in 3rd standard, my father was transferred to Kolkata and  mom  & I went for one week to see to suitable accommodation for him. His then Managing Director  took us to Tollygunge club  for dinner and asked me if I liked “Magnum”  ice cream. And being a true, innocent 8 year old I told him I liked the same but mom says it’s very costly. He smiled and bought me one. I enjoyed the ice cream but after I got home, I  heard an earful  which wasn’t nearly as pleasant. But, I guess it was in order given to my record of blurting out the truth to the wrong person.

When I was in 5th standard, I had to go to Mumbai with my grandparents for a few days but my Principal did not initially  grant leave  and asked me the reason for travel. I was really tense as the flight tickets had already been booked. I told  the Principal that my mama (mother’s brother) had welcomed a baby girl and we had to go for the naming ceremony. When she asked me the name of the baby I said Ashna (random). Oh God! I don’t even have a maternal uncle to begin with ! In the end, I did go to Mumbai  but my parents had a hearty laugh at my expense and teased my nani ( grandmother) about the unknown brother . I will never forget that day.🤫🤣

Then in 7th standard, I went to Sydney. My aunt had gifted me a pair of fashionable boots which were just fit but tres chic. I wore them to the Sydney airport and took them off for security check. Afterwards, they wouldn’t fit! For nearly half an hour I struggled to put them on  to the  smiles of curious  onlookers and security  officials.  Ended up walking barefoot at the airport for some time.😳

So I guess that’s enough of cringeworthy moments. What are some of the embarrassing situations that you have faced? Please do share your laughable moments in the comments below. 👇🏼

Catch ya later!🤘🏽

  2. Well written!! So relatable...
I too have many such moments but don't have courage to share.
One such incident I would like to share. I was about 5 years old and we went to visit family friend, my parents told me not to ask or eat Barfi ( an Indian sweet), usually offered at that time.
After reaching their place, even before they could offer anything, I started saying we will not have Barfi and could not understand the expressions at my mom's face....I didn't understand why I was scolded later but from then on, I didn't eat barfi till college .Keep posting such cheerful blogs..

  3. Dear Aarushi,
I love you for your passion to read and write
on simple but heart touching and interesting topics.
You have written about some of your embarrassing incidents. These are both laughing and embarrassing. I pat your courage to reveal to others, your embarrassing and later on laughing memories.
I, too, am tempt to share one such incident with you all.
In the year 1961, I was travelling from my home town to Fatehpur shekhawati, to resume my duty after summer vacation. I had to take another train from Jaipur. There was time gap of 4 hours between two trains. I reached Jaipur around 5 AM and decided to see Maharani park which was near Jaipur railway station. I was sitting on the bench enjoying the morning fresh air and beautiful surroundings. I noticed two men. One of them was playing a game of lottery ticket and the other was managing the show. The game was to draw a numbered ticket from the bag, if it tallis with the number which you have chosen, you will get 10 times of what you have betted..
I was lured to participate. Initially I betted small amount and won too. It encouraged me to bet for lager sum. I don't know how it happened that l betted for Rs 10 leaving only Rs 2 or 3 with me. I lost the game and money. I realised that I am cheated by thugs. I was in a big problem. I had no money to purchase ticket from Jaipur to Fatehpur Shekhawati. I knew no one in Jaipur. It was just like as sky had fallen upon me. But the world is not deprived of nice people. A man, probably a regular morning walker, noticed my worried face and asked me if you have some problem?.I told him that I have lost all my money to the thugs around here and have no money even to purchase ticket to Fatehpur. In those ticket from Jaipur to Fatehpur shekhawati was around Rs 4.50. He proved to be very kind and generous and gave me Rs 5 note with the instruction that beware of such people in future. I thanked him and asked his address to send money but he declined politely. To date I consider him like a messenger of God who rescued me out of a very hard situation.

  4. It happens all the time even with adults. Few years back when mobile calls were expensive and giving missed call was acceptable i made simular mistake. I was neck deep in marriage preparation in family and informed the baratis to give me a missed call once they start the Baarat. 😄:-). Suffice to say I was informed politely that they will call and inform...

Your blog forced me down my memory lane. One of the most embarrassing moment was from my earlier teen years where I wrongly prepared for a subject in my final exams. It was a shocking revelation when paper of different subject appeared and I had no one to blame but self. However, I could clear the exam but even today when I think of this incident, I feel stupid. :-)
