New Year Resolution๐Ÿฅ‚

BUON ANNO, fellow countrymen. Lend me your ears! I stand(or write in my case) in front of you to wish you a belated happy New Year! Before you think that I have gone nuts, BUON ANNO means happy new year in Italian.

As per Know it all Google, most historians believe Babylonians were the first to make New Year's  resolutions as we do today, although this famed ancient city held its New Year celebration in March, not January, in accordance with an agricultural year.   During this religious festival, Babylonians either crowned a new king or proclaimed their loyalty to the existing king.  Citizens also swore to pay off debts to their gods, and promised to return borrowed goods. Those promises and declarations are thought to be the first New Year's resolutions.

This begets the question as to why we keep new year resolutions ?. To sum up my extensive research, a New Year gives a new beginning to us, a blank slate to turn a new leaf. Again, this is what Google says, I think people keep those to brag about how they will cut down on this and that pish posh in kitty parties. What, I am just being practical;)

Well, writing about my New Years Eve will not only lull you  and put me  to sleep so let me just summarize it. It was the same old, same old. Just instead of studying till 10, I did the same till 12. Yeah, a really studious  start to the year.

 "When the clock strikes twelve

To a new world I delve

Where miseries are tucked in the shelves

And joy unfolds itself

Where people make promises on New Year

But only god knows how sincere"

Yep, this blog is going to be about New Year Resolutions. Let me tell you, I forget what resolution I make by the end of the first month. I just know that you all are right now shaking your heads behind the screen. But I don't need it to be New Years to resolve something. I mean ,I do it after every exam and forget it the next week  Yeahhh..I am a hopeless case.

Anyways, my resolution this year is to shorten my screen time, which, I know will be impossible but welll ,life is all about doing the impossible. Another resolution I made was to get my parents into teen music, I can’t take another Kishore kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, however good they maybe. Now that, is going to be difficult. May god take pity on me!

You now what I noticed is that whenever we take or rather I take a resolution, I keep on  procrastinating  ...saying I will do it tomorrow and that tomorrow turns to weeks to months. Now, I know this case isn’t only with me(and my parents) so you better not protest.

Personally, from my opinion 1st January is no different than any other day of the year. Then again, that maybe cause I have difficultly in keeping any resolution, be it New year, mid year or quater year. Literally, it is so easy to not keep track of any other day of the year except for your birthday(duh).

What I think is that we don't have motivation for this. I can speak atleast for myself, that any such promise I make, it's kind of a passing by thought. I am usually like " Yeah, I can do this, hmmm..I will try this out, maybe I can do this" with absolutely 0 sincerity, even if it pains me to admit so.More than me, I think my mom cares about my taken resolutions. Seriously, if I hear ‘A new year a new me’ once again, I am going to loose it. Ironically, I am still able to drag my resolution for at least a month, hers last for about 2 weeks.

One of the methods, I read from another article is making micro-habits. What that means is that suppose I want to start adding fruits in my diet. I should start with one fruit a day. It may seem small but it is something I can do and won’t seem a ginormous task.

Another way, my personal fave is telling close friends and family about the taken resolution. They can keep nagging you if you don’t follow those till you start kicking yourself for ever telling them ahem..personal experience..ahem. Now it is not because of that that I follow this method but because it is so fun to throw jibes and nags at the people who have entrusted you with their resolutions. Their faces๐Ÿ˜‚, I mean if looks could kill, I would be 6 feet beneath the ground!

Only a shocking percentage of like 16% are able to follow through with their resolutions!I mean I resolved  to finish this blog before 18th Jan but I am still writing till the 3rd!! One resolution already broken ๐Ÿ˜ž, great going Aru, keep it up! I am definitely not a part of the 16%.

Are you a part of the unyielding 16%? All jokes aside, remember that with determination and passion along with the 3U’s (unyielding, unfaultering, in wavering), anything thing is possible except lying to your mom. Please don’t be deterred by my unsuccessful resolution journey, with focus, you will be able to achieve it against all odds. Do comment about your resolution journey, share and keep missing me!

Ciao๐Ÿ‘‹
