Good reads: The President’s Daughter
Helloooo lovelies!! Enemy has been slayed !. Yes that one time of the year..... my final exams are over! Are bhaiyaa all is well? Cause I am in Saturday Saturday mood. Oh forget, that was me trying to bring out the non existent humour in me !
This blog is based on a book and is unlike my previous blogs which were more about actual experience with some tadka !. A book review like this actually requires one to read the book in old fashioned way at the expense of social media time.. Don’t look so surprised, some kids do like reading! So, I recently laid my hands on a political thriller, the President’s Daughter written by James Patterson in collaboration with Bill Clinton.
The grief and longing of a father for his kidnapped daughter. The distress , guilt and despair of a mother hiding a secret. The dirty world of politics. Brain washed, ruthless, stone hearted criminals. The hidden war between two super powers. A former marine. Two (2) do or die SEALS. A sassy NSA agent. What's the common thread !? With the world watching with bated breath, what will happen next?
I would recommend this thriller for 16 years and above. Also if you are not a fan of cursing or violence, I would not suggest reading it. I mean, the book is basically about violence. It would just scare you all the more.
I honestly found the first 20 chapters boring. I mean they are just overloaded with statistics and figures and this and that department. But from then on, is when I think the the actual plot starts featuring Matt Keating, a former SEAL who became President in unforeseen circumstances, Pamela Barnes, a feminist but a dirty politician and Mel Keating, Matt’s daughter and a brave, strong willed and clever girl who hates politics with a passion.
Asim and Faraj, cousins who are jihadists. Gosh, there were so many times I wanted to beat them uppp. I literally cried in frustration during their lines. And Pamela Barnes. God that woman! She knows how to get work done and thinks herself as an independent woman but in reality, she just listens to what her husband, the Chief of Staff says. I mean like come on!
And then gosh! There is this department and that department and this one..ughhhh. I can’t remember a single department and then there are so many heads! I forget who she was or he was and then I am left stumped. But in this political game, I liked getting into their minds, being able to know or try to predict the counterattack. I liked the the book didn’t shy away from the darkness of politics and instead presenting it in such an enthralling manner.
It’s a web of lies, betrayal, backstabbing and did I say lies? Family comes before anything. This is the one line I would use to summarise this goosebumpy (is that even a word?) book. Yeah it has some down points but the exciting, mind boggling parts clearly overshadow them.
It’s prequel, ‘The President is Missing’ is currently on my TBR list. Now, you might be wondering why on earth did she read the sequel before the prequel. It’s simple, actually. My mind is upside down. I mean what other explanations can there be?
Anyways, leaving behind my (not so) unique mind, do try the book out. Also, do comment the books you currently have your hands. Till next time folks✌️…

Very well written Aarushi. This is enticing enough for me to go and read the book. Looking forward to the blog on the prequel book. Happy reading!!
ReplyDeleteNice to read your blog on ' The president 's daughter'. You have presented a nice review in a nutshell just like shlokas in Veda which use minimum words to describe the maximum.
ReplyDeleteI have also gone through firsy six chapters of the book and now you have tempted me to rush through to 20th chapter. I will be looking to your next blog curiously.
Good work, keep up the zeal. 👍
ReplyDeleteNicely explained Aarushi. Keep it up, best wishes
